Make sure your hair is free from product. Best if detangled before the appointment.
An appointment for Installation will be made at the time of consultation.
1. Consultation
2. The Locking Session (may be divided into two days to manage sitting time). (Detangling will incur an additional fee at installation appointment.)
3. The follow-up re-tightening session (done after at least 2 shampooings).
ABOUT THE PROCESS
First Visit: The Consultation
During this session, we will discuss your personal hair care history, your styling preferences, and your lifestyle to determine if locs are right for you. Also, you will get a cluster of approximately 6 "SAMPLE LOCKS" put in your hair to see if they will hold, check sizes, verify the amount of scalp showing, settling-in time, etc. This consultation is essential for both you and your Consultant to ensure you get your locks done most suitably.
Second Visit: The Locking Session (May be divided up to manage client's sitting time.)
Bring a good book because the locking process can take from 10-20 hours or even longer in some cases. You may schedule your follow-up visit before you leave. Good maintenance is the key to gorgeous locs.
LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED ON DAY ONE OF SISTERLOCK INSTALLATION.
Third Visit: Follow-up
This visit should be scheduled after at least two shampooings, which is usually within a month from the date of your Locking Session. Your Consultant will monitor the integrity of your locks, tighten them up and give you an idea of how long the settling-in process is likely to take. You can also begin discussing styling tips for the 'total look' that's right for you!
Ongoing Follow-up Visits
It is recommended that you schedule your first few re-tightening visits at 4-6 week intervals. This way the progress of your locks can be easily monitored. As your locks mature, your Consultant will be able to determine how often you will need to come in for re-tightening on a regular basis. The average time between visits is 4-6 weeks, depending on the hair type and rate of growth.
My journey began in 2020 after contemplating getting traditional locks for several years. Then I discovered Sisterlocks but was unsure about paying that much money for something I wasn't sure I would like or be able to embrace. I knew it would be a big commitment and a drastic change for me, a person who loves versatility. I was afraid of the backlash I thought I would experience in white America. I was afraid to wear my natural crown. If I got locks I would be doing the total opposite of what mainstream America says makes black women beautiful.
During the pandemic, I took dive and I have not looked back. I have not worn one wig, no weaves, no glue, no braids, no chemicals, and most importantly no worries. Not to mention the amount of money I have saved by not having to purchase any products. My hair is healthy, with no breakage or thinning. Locs have given me the freedom as a black woman that I never even know I needed. I no longer need a comb. And I have fallen in love with me, freely. And it all started with my hair.
